English Martyrs Pre-School opened in April 1972. Mothers from the congregation of English Martyrs Church helped set up the Pre-School which originally only opened on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
As the Pre-School grew it increased the number of sessions to five mornings and three afternoons until September 2010, when it became a full daycare setting, operating during school term time only.
English Martyrs Pre-School is a popular pre-school that provides a safe, friendly and stimulating environment for all children aged 2 to 5 years. It has a large hall and a secure garden area for up to 26 children at any one time.
“My daughter enjoys all activities and interactions which are always planned well and they’ve helped her develop her social and emotional skills. She’s built many positive relationships with the staff and other children. She has made very good progress in language and communication, maths, arts and physical development. I’m confident she’s ready to start primary school in September.” (Parent Questionnaire, Summer 2016)
The Pre-School is a registered charity and meets the requirements to offer part-funded early years places through its registration with Reading Early Years Service. It complies with the requirements laid down by Ofsted and is subject to regular inspections by them.
A committee oversee the running of the Pre-School, and many past Pre-School children have gone on to become Pre-School parents, staff and committee members.
