English Martyrs Pre-School opened in April 1972. Mothers from the congregation of English Martyrs Church helped set up the Pre-School which originally only opened on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
As the Pre-School grew it increased the number of sessions to five mornings and three afternoons until September 2010, when it became a full daycare setting, operating during school term time only.
English Martyrs Pre-School is a popular pre-school that provides a safe, friendly and stimulating environment for all children aged 2 to 5 years. It has a large hall and a secure garden area for up to 26 children at any one time.
“Definitely a positive experience for my child and if I knew a year ago how much we would see him grow in confidence, and how much he would love going there, we wouldn’t have worried as much as he did.
Was a big milestone and a very enjoyable one for him..” (Parent Questionnaire, Summer 2018)
The Pre-School is a registered charity and meets the requirements to offer part-funded early years places through its registration with Reading Early Years Service. It complies with the requirements laid down by Ofsted and is subject to regular inspections by them.
A committee oversee the running of the Pre-School, and many past Pre-School children have gone on to become Pre-School parents, staff and committee members.
